4 Best Amboseli National Park Tours from Nairobi

4 Best Amboseli National Park Tours from Nairobi

The best Amboseli National Park tours from Nairobi give you at least one full day inside the park, so a three-day road safari is the sweet spot for most travelers. A one-day trip suits a tight layover. A six or seven-day circuit suits first-time Kenya visitors who also want the Masai Mara. A trip with a beach finish suits honeymooners and anyone who wants to rest after the bush.

The problem is that Amboseli safari packages look alike online. Prices swing widely, and a low number often hides park fees, drinks or a balloon ride that cost extra. This guide compares four ways to see Amboseli, with the days, prices and inclusions that matter, and then shows you how to choose between them.

Laxa Trails Safaris is a Kenya-based company founded in 2019 by a guide with more than 14 years in the field. The prices below come from our own listings. Where a trip type is not ours, such as a day trip, we say so.

1. Laxa Trails 3-day Amboseli safari

What the trip covers

Our 3 Days Amboseli National Park Safari is a road trip from Nairobi with two nights near the park. You get game drives, views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the park’s large elephant herds. The first and last days include the long drive, so the middle day is your full day of game viewing.

3 Days Amboseli National Park Safari

Plan for an early start on that day. The park is open from 06:00 to 18:00, and Kilimanjaro is usually clearest at sunrise, before cloud builds around the summit.

Three days and two nights is the shortest Amboseli trip that gives you a full day of game viewing instead of mostly driving.

Who it suits

Choose this trip if you have a short window and want Amboseli’s elephants and mountain views on a private, guided trip. Most of our safaris run privately with a minimum of two people. We recommend no more than seven per vehicle, so everyone keeps a window seat.

It also works well for families and first-time safari travelers who want a simple, low-risk start.

Price and inclusions

The listed price is $715, down from $815. That works out to about $238 per day. The price on the site is set for one person, so ask for a quote that fits your party size.

  • Transport in a safari van built for game viewing, with an option to upgrade to a 4×4 Land Cruiser
  • English-speaking driver-guide
  • All park entrance fees
  • Full board accommodation in a lodge or camp
  • Game drives and drinking water
  • Not included: soft and alcoholic drinks, Maasai village visit, balloon safari, tips

2. Full-day Amboseli trip from Nairobi

What the trip covers

A full-day tour usually means hotel pickup in Nairobi, a drive of roughly four to five hours each way, a few hours of game drive and the drive back. Operators sell it as the easy option, but most of your day is spent on the road. Our Amboseli packages start at three days, so this one is a format you would book elsewhere.

Who it suits

It suits travelers with one free day in Nairobi, no time for an overnight stay and realistic expectations. You will likely see elephants, and Kilimanjaro if the sky is clear. You will rarely get the soft morning and evening light that makes the best photographs, because you spend those hours driving.

A day trip shows you Amboseli, but an overnight stay lets you experience it.

Price and inclusions

Day trip prices vary by operator and group size, so compare quotes line by line. Before you pay, confirm:

  • Whether park entrance fees are included, since they are a large part of the real cost
  • Whether lunch and drinking water are included
  • Vehicle type, ideally a pop-up roof van or 4×4, and the maximum number of passengers
  • Pickup and drop-off times at your Nairobi hotel

3. Six and seven-day Kenya circuits with Amboseli

What the trip covers

Two of our packages fold Amboseli into a wider route. The 6 Days Unforgettable Kenya Safari covers Amboseli, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha and the Masai Mara, with a Lake Naivasha boat ride and an optional Maasai village visit. The 7-Day Masai Mara Great Wildebeest Migration Safari adds Hell’s Gate and pairs the Big Five and the migration with elephants under Kilimanjaro, rhinos and flamingos at Nakuru, and walking or cycling around Naivasha and Hell’s Gate.

7-Day Masai Mara Great Wildebeest Migration Safari

We also run a 7-day route over the same parks with a boat ride, a walking safari and a Maasai village visit.

Many readers ask whether the Masai Mara or Amboseli is better. They do different jobs. Amboseli gives you open plains, big elephant herds and the best Kilimanjaro backdrop. The Mara gives you big cats and, usually between July and October, the migration. With six or seven days, you do not have to choose.

Amboseli is for elephants and Kilimanjaro, the Mara is for big cats and the migration, and a week lets you have both.

Who it suits

These circuits fit first-time Kenya visitors with a week, couples and families who want variety. The 7-day migration trip is the one to book if your dates fall in migration season.

Price and inclusions

The 6-day safari is $2,195, reduced from $2,315. The 7-day migration safari is $2,446. The other 7-day route is quoted on request.

  • Both priced trips include a 4×4 or pop-up roof safari vehicle, full board accommodation, all park entrance fees, mineral water and game drives
  • The 7-day migration trip also includes airport or hotel pickup
  • Not included: international flights, visa fees, personal insurance, drinks, tips and the balloon safari

4. Amboseli with Tsavo and a beach finish

What the trip covers

Three longer packages pair Amboseli with the coast. The 8 Days Amboseli, Tsavo West, Tsavo East Safari & Diani Beach Holiday adds Tsavo East’s red elephants before time on Diani’s white sand. The 10-day trip links Ol Pejeta, Nakuru, the Masai Mara, Naivasha, Amboseli and Tsavo West before Diani. The 13-day honeymoon covers Amboseli, Samburu and the Masai Mara, then ends on Mombasa’s beaches.

8 Days Amboseli, Tsavo West, Tsavo East Safari & Diani Beach Holiday

Who it suits

These trips suit honeymooners and travelers with eight days or more who want safari and a beach in one booking. They also suit anyone who would rather end a trip with rest than another early game drive. Tsavo’s quieter, drier landscape makes a good contrast to Amboseli’s swamps.

Price and inclusions

Request a quote, because the price depends on dates, group size and lodge level. Our accommodation ranges from basic camping to luxury tented camps and lodges, depending on budget.

  • Included: 4×4 Land Cruiser transport, English-speaking driver-guide, full board meals, park fees and game drives
  • Included on the 8-day trip: airport and airstrip transfers
  • Included on the 10-day trip: all taxes and VAT
  • Not included: international flights, visa fees, drinks, tips and optional activities

Choose a beach combination only if you want the rest, because every coast day is a day away from wildlife.

How to choose between Amboseli safari packages

Side-by-side comparison

The table puts the main figures together. The cost per day rises as you add parks, because each park adds fees and another lodge.

Trip Days Parks Listed price About per day
Laxa 3-day Amboseli safari 3 Amboseli $715 $238
Full-day trip from Nairobi 1 Amboseli Varies by operator n/a
6-day Kenya safari 6 Amboseli, Nakuru, Naivasha, Masai Mara $2,195 $366
7-day migration safari 7 Masai Mara, Amboseli, Naivasha, Hell’s Gate, Nakuru $2,446 $349
8 to 13-day beach combinations 8 to 13 Amboseli plus Tsavo, Samburu or Masai Mara, then coast Quote on request n/a

How many days are enough

Three days is enough for Amboseli alone. Extra days pay off only when they add new parks, not when they stretch Amboseli itself. If you have only one day, a day trip works, but expect a long drive for a short game drive.

Add days to add parks, not to see more of Amboseli.

What to check before you book

Compare the same items on every quote: park fees, vehicle type, meals, drinks, and extras such as balloon rides and village visits. Tips and travel insurance are almost never included.

On our trips, a 50-60% deposit by wire transfer confirms the booking. The balance is due at least 30 days before departure, or you can pay it in cash US dollars on arrival. We strongly recommend travel insurance.

Which Amboseli trip to book

If you have three days, book the 3-day safari and enjoy a full day in the park. If you have one day, accept the long drive and check the inclusions. If you have a week, a circuit with the Masai Mara gives you elephants, big cats and the migration in one trip. If you want a honeymoon or a rest at the end, choose a beach combination.

Tell us your dates, group size and budget, and a Tour Consultant will send you a quote. You can request a quote for your Amboseli safari or ask us to tailor a trip around the parks you want.
